BAHAMAS LIVEABOARD

The VDC took over Caribbean Explorer I for a week of 'eat, sleep, dive....repeat daily'. While the boat holds 18 passengers, VDC's small group had it all to themselves, a veritible private charter. After a day when high winds delayed the departure from Georgetown, the boat was off to Long Island for their shallow checkout dives, and then onto Conception Island for 3 1/2 days of nonstop wall diving, and exploration. Conception Island, uninhabited yet full of life, also afforded an exploration (a la Charles Darwin!) of its water channels and mangrove swamps...all pristine!!! The island's wall diving included swimthroughs, coral and sponges and fish galore, and roaming sharks. The last dives were at Shark Reef, which was true to its name. The highlight, for one of the group, was being the focus of a curious juvenile grouper, who 'played' hide and seek, touchy/feely, 'scratch me below my lip', 'let's stay here and look into each others eyes', and more (an engagement announcement for them was later found in the local paper!). After days and days of nonstop diving the group is ready for its next VDC trip!

DOMINICA

Bruce Monroe led a group of 12 VDC'ers to CASTLE COMFORT LODGE/DIVE DOMINICA. In Dominica, the “nature island” of the Caribbean, they enjoyed both diving and land based activities, including 5 days of 2 tank dives and the islands mountainous terrain, virgin rainforest, rivers, lakes, streams, and waterfalls. Hiking shoes were in order for the islands volcanic physique. And on top of the beauty and quietness of this treasure island, and the terrific diving, there was the whale and dolphin tour and other special land adventure tours (which only trip attendees can tell you about....too racy to print here!)
