DIVING FOR LIFE (DFL)

DIVING FOR LIFE - 'DFL' - is the annual international diver gathering of 125+ gay and lesbian divers from all over the world who converge at one spot for a week of diving, comraderie, fun, sharing, and fundraising for GLBT health charities. It's a great week...and great diving...and great people!

Patrick Kelly, a founding member of The Village Dive Club, organized the first DFL in 1992 when 76 divers from all over the world met in Roatan, Honduras. Every year since divers from around the world have gathered for a week of diving and comraderie. The next DFL in September 19-26, 2009 on BONAIRE.

Since it started the annual DFLs have raised nearly $1,000,000 for gay and lesbian charities and health and HIV prevention, research, and treatment. DFL's fundraising is turned over to the local dive clubs whose members attend DFL, asking them to donate these funds into their local communities. To date The Village Dive Club has donated well over $100,000 to such NYC area gay/lesbian charities and organizations as the Callen Lorde Community Health Center, In The Life Media, The U.S. Peace Corps - Cameroon HIV/AIDS Grant, the LGBT Community Center, Bronx Lesbian and Gay Health Resource Consortium, AID for AIDS, Adolescent AIDS Program/Montefiore Medical Center, and God's Love We Deliver.
